The Godfather Opening (Practice) Portlynn

Hey Dave!
Just thought i'de post some more studies.I made a list of films i wanted to watch this week and study from. Yesterday was "The Godfather" and today is "Raging Bull".
The rest of the week i plan on watching...

Lawrence of Arabia
Rear Window
Sunset BLVD.
Psycho
&
Dr. Strangelove

I plan on choosing scenes that i like from each film and doing them as boarding practice. Yeah i know, just the typical stuff to do for practice, but i just thought i would give you a heads up.

But. Here's the opening scene form Godfather. I know the last practice i did was an opening, but i really, really love the entire first 25 minutes of this movie, i thinks it's so perfect i wanted to re board the whole thing but i only had a time yesterday to do this one. if i have time i'll go back and board some more from the rest of the film, i found a couple of really great scenes that i wanted to do.

  1. Im glad your doing this.
    things to remember;

    1. you need to start considering design shorthand of your characters. I know this is from the film but in the thumbs they look too similar. so it gets a little confusing as to who's who.

    2. when doing these film studies go ahead and write the dialogue under the boards to see where they cut and off of what lines.

    3. dont forget the depth in the work. even though this is one of the greatest films ever, live action is more forgiving with how the mind translates the shots and we can watch and be inthralled the actors and their performances. you need to translate it to illustrative boards that make it interesting for us to see. So take liberty to caricature, push camera back keeping the same shot and stay loose with body gesture.
